It’s A Wrap: Celebrate With A New Invicta!

You'll notice that this watch has two crowns. The crown for adjusting the watch is placed in a lefty position at 9 o'clock, while the crown in the 4 o'clock position is used to operate the slide-ruler. More on that in a second. The movement in this watch does not support hand-winding, which is less of a deal than it might seem. This mean that the watch is wound via the automatic rotor only. If the watch's power reserve runs out, then you need to oscillate it manually to get it wound a bit. I place my Orient CFT0004B on a winder which keeps it running for a long time. The power reserve of the movement is about 40 hours, so leaving it off for a day wont be a problem, and you still have the hand power reserve indicator to tell you when it need to be worn a bit. The automatic rotor is quite efficient, and I find while wearing the watch, the power reserve indicator is almost always near full.

As for my Rolex Cellini Danaos, purchased in Geneva, I love the Sinatra-style qualities of this model. Classic. Smooth.

A. Lange & Söhne Watches At SIHH 2009 Video Shows & Events

The case itself is 18k rose rose, with at least one version featuring black gold accents (like the bezel). My favorite case is the one with the large skeletonized lugs, reminiscent of 1970's watch designs with that modern twist. The lugs on the 44mm case have that integrated look and just match up well with all the polishing all over the case and dial. This watch is like two steps away from being a blingy watch, almost, but not quite. I can see how the wrong crowd will mistake the automatic movement rotor on the face of the watch for Frederic Jouvenot's take on "wheel spinners" for  watch. As for the name of the watch, it is pretty silly, "Automatic Chronograph Evolution." Come on... really? Lets get with the time and give it a name that isn't merely descriptive. "Yea, I know it is an automatic chronograph, but what is it called?!" Hopefully at launch there will be a new name as well.

Longio Watches has been the back-bone of a few popular watch companies that you are probably aware of. While who they supply and work for is a secret, it is no secret that Longio makes watches under their own name now. They typically use a number of different brands (the Chinese never were very good at branding to conform with Western ideals), but there are some interesting pieces now being offered - several thousand dollar timepieces.

Pontiac Watches Dead Long Before Car Maker Kicks Bucket Feature Articles

You should know that this article was written over a period of time starting soon after visiting the Lange watch manufacture up to a couple of months later. Stretching it out has helped me mull over the important points of the trip, as I walked away quite impressed and inspired right after the visit. There is really no sufficient amount of words or pictures I could provide to describe how watches are made, not for mainstream watches, and certainly not for luxury watches. I asked easily over 100 questions that day. Though I had 100 more, and probably 1000 interesting points I never even thought to ask but were important. This was just a small snapshot in a world of craftsmanship that is truly rare in today's world. It is easily to complain about why we need such expensive watches when the world has so many other problems, but you would be missing the point. Is it true that certain luxury goods are simply expensive for the sake of being described "a luxury." This really isn't the case with Lange Uhren. They simply produce something at a very high quality that costs a lot to make. Basically this is what all real luxury items started out as - a maker of "the best" of something, not just a status symbol. So yes, it is true that the average price of a new A. Lange & Sohne watch is about 35,000 - 40,000 Euros. It is also true that in this humble watch lover's opinion, who can earnestly not even begin to think about affording one of these timepieces, I can honestly say the price is totally worth it. If you haven't had an opportunity to really appreciate an A. Lange & Sohne watch, even if you are familiar with the brand, I encourage you to take a close and intimate look the next time you are able to handle on of their purely German timepieces. Note that if you ask anyone at A. Lange & Sohne about how the watches or made, or to describe a feature of the watch, you are in store for a thorough and detail answer from people passionate about their brand (as they rightly should be).

So by gifting her with a Zenith, you would be giving her something rare - something that has been toiled over for decades - and most importantly, is unique.

You can visit the exhibitor directory at JCK's website. There are a lot of important brands, distributors, and watch brand group companies. If there are any specific brands you want me to go check out and report on, just let me know. The event will span through the Sand Convention Center (which is funny because the Sands hotel no longer exists), and in the Venetian hotel. The main show is going to be from Saturday May 31st until June 2nd. I will still probably post articles during most of that time though.

Duality collection watches from Itay Noy are fun and artistic, but they are also like Two-Face (image provided). You get a unique and great looking watch, but you also get something that talks about who you are. Most people embody some form of duality, and each person will be most drawn to at least one of the Duality line of watches offered here. The watches cost ,800 for Israel's nicest watch brand.

Suunto doesn't make just "watches," but rather "wrist-top computers." This new line of watches has been designed in partnership with the International Triathlon Union (ITU). That means the watches have been designed for some serious and specific training use. The traditional training watch was light weight, had some timing functions, and that is it. Later models enjoyed such functions like heart rate monitors, and other cool functions. But the Suunto t6c Red Arrow is light years ahead of the "past." The watch is part of an optional modular system of "Pods," which are units that are GPS devices, or others that fit on shoes, bicycles, etc.. .to help measure distance and cadence. In addition to all this available data, the t6c Red Arrow takes all this information together and has some clever software that not only logs and plots it for you, but helps to calculate calories burned, Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC), and Training Benefit (which is a measurement of the aerobic benefit of a training session, on a one-to-five scale). Little else out there does this, and only just a few more of you are familiar with these scales to keep tabs on. However, it is quite important when you are a serious triathlon trainer, or other athletic professional. One of the best features of the watches are the customizable displays that give you optional information at a glance - be it the time, your speed, cadence, heart rate, etc... The benefit to you is being able to adapt accordingly with having second by second updated information.

The first Bell & Ross BR01 watch focused on the middle era, while the quartz BR watch came second - and now the BR Heritage is the newest in the collection. At first glance, the BR Heritage looks a lot like the standard BR01 (or BR03) watch line. When you put the two together, you can easily see the differences. Aside from the vintage colors, the hands and indexes are a bit different. The BR Heritage goes Panerai style minimalist having less indicators on the dial. The hands — equally as effective — are more classically instrumental in design.

The watch dial is the major attraction and is constructed from something called Aventurine, which is a type of glass made with small copper particles inside. The copper particles inside of the man-made glass provide the incredible glitter look. Here is a bit about Aventurine directly from Blu. Note that the Aventurine used in the Galaxy watch is made in the Murano region of Italy:

Although the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Wempe Scuba watch is sold out, though there is one available on Jameslist.com right now. The original price was about 20,000 Euros with a current price of about 11,000 Euros. This is a solid price for this beautiful diving watch from one of the most exclusive watch makers of today.

Tag Heuer Aquaracer 500M Calibre 5 Dive Watch Watch Releases

A. Lange & Söhne Factory Trip Part 2: The Luxury German Watch Manufacturing Process Inside the Manufacture

The pictured Bremont Supermarine 500 watch uses their modified BE-36A automatic mechanical movement (certified to be a chronometer) - that is itself likely to be a modified ETA 2836 movement with a day and date indicator. Looking at the image of the rear of the watch, you can tell that it is of a chronograph model (due to the pushers). This signifies that pretty soon Bremont will also release a chronograph version of the Supermarine 500 watch. I am pretty sure that this sharp looking timepiece will have lots of iterations released in various colors and complications. The vertically grooved rubber strap is nice enough, but I sense that the watch will be offered on leather and rubber straps in due time. Prices are likely to be in the ,000 - ,000 range.
